Why Does The DanMachi Viewing Guide Recommend This Order?

Not only was season 1 released first, but it was also where the series’ exciting band of characters introduced themselves to us! (And where the debate over who’s “best girl” began.)

Is It Wrong to Expect a Hot Spring in a Dungeon? is an OVA that chronologically takes place after season 1, so if you don’t want to be confused over what’s going on, it’s best to watch this next. Besides, anime series should have at least one hot spring adventure, right?

Now, for the curveball. Sword Oratoria takes place at the same time as season 1, and both stories intertwine with one another. While this technically means you could watch them in either order, we highly recommend that you watch season 1 first to familiarize yourself with the world and characters.

But what about the movie? Where does that fit into the continuity? We have fantastic news: Arrow of the Orion is a self-contained story, so you can add it to your viewing order wherever you'd like! If you want to familiarize yourself with the characters before viewing it, though, we recommend that you watch it after Sword Oratoria.

With those out of the way, it’s now time for season 2! In the name of due diligence, we must stress that the series presumes you already know who all the characters are by this point. In addition, the anime brings up a few plot threads laid out in season 1.

As for the second OVA? You should watch it after DanMachi II since the "beach episode" takes place after the second season.

Season 3 is up next, and we don’t need to tell you that you really should watch everything else before starting the third TV series. Afterwards, go ahead and watch the third OVA to cap things off.
